For millennia, sleds have been used as a means of winter transport. Especially in Scandinavia, the Alps, and the Ore Mountains, they were used as pull sleds for transporting hay and timber. The first mention of sledding is probably Plutarch, who describes the Cimbri, a Germanic tribe, as having run naked through the snow up the mountain and then sped back down sitting on broad, flat shields.

Sledding and tobogganing in the Allgäu
Whether for family holidays or action seekers, in the Allgäu you can choose between cozy family descents through a mountainous winter landscape like in a fairy tale, natural toboggan runs through snowy forests or fast descents that heat things up.
On the back of a sled, we are all children.
They waited and waited, and suddenly there they were: snowflakes. And one thing was clear: time to get the sled out! With flushed cheeks, it was laboriously pulled up the slope, only to succumb to the thrill of speed once more. Exhausted, drenched in sweat, happy – nothing could have been more fun at that moment. So why give up the fun now, just because, biologically speaking, we've outgrown our childhood?

Allgäu, the tobogganing paradise
Whether you prefer a thrilling ride or a leisurely pace, tobogganing is pure Alpine fun. The Allgäu region, with its mountainous landscape, offers countless opportunities to relive the exhilarating thrill of childhood. There are over 100 kilometers of groomed toboggan runs and natural tracks, some boasting impressive lengths of 5.2 kilometers and even nighttime lighting. Some, with their gentle inclines and easy descents, are particularly well-suited for families with young children. And if a lift is available for the ascent, the fun is amplified to an even greater degree. Every family vacation or action-packed adventure becomes an unforgettable experience!

Sledding with the whole family, especially amidst this winter landscape, makes every young and young-at-heart heart beat faster.
