Hiking through the sea of flowers in the Fellhorn/Kanzelwand two-country hiking region in Oberstdorf in the Allgäu region

Not only does the hiker's eye behold the ubiquitous green of the mountain meadows, but also a vibrant red adorns the slopes of the mountain massif, as if diamonds had fallen from the sky. The reason: the alpine roses, also known as alpenrausch. And indeed, the ever-present, captivating crimson has an intoxicating effect on its onlookers. Every year, from June to August, the Fellhorn poses in festive red, like a beauty queen, before the eyes of its awestruck admirers.

They bloom in radiant red, vibrant yellow, delicate pink, or elegant white. But what are they? Perhaps an alpine rose, a spectacled euonymus, or maybe a masterwort? If you'd like to not only see but also understand this colorful floral splendor, you should definitely join one of the free botanical-geological guided tours along the flower trail! Due to the seasonal flowering period, however, this is only possible in summer.

Even at 1,957 meters above sea level, you don't have to miss out on culinary delights, as the panoramic restaurant is a true must for strudel fans and lovers of Austrian pastries! The airy, bright restaurant offers a wide variety of delicacies. To ensure you can enjoy the mountain's beauty even during your well-deserved rest, the restaurant offers a 360-degree panoramic view. And if the sun is calling you outside, you can relax on the sun deck or the viewing terrace.

For all children and the young at heart, the two-country hiking region offers play stations with pools, locks, and waterwheels. This adventure trail for little water sprites and damsels revolves around the cool water and leads from the Kanzelwand mountain station to the popular Riezler Alpsee lake. Here, water trickles, splashes, and dams up; there's plenty of space to splash, play, and experiment. A picture-perfect family experience!

Most of us are familiar with the savory taste of mountain cheese. But do you know the process it goes through before it practically melts in our mouths? Anyone interested in learning about the traditional art of cheesemaking has the opportunity to watch the cheesemaker at work on the Schlappoldalpe alpine pasture on the Fellhorn mountain between June 27th and August 31st. And who knows, maybe from then on you'll only eat homemade cheese?!
