The most beautiful hiking trails, bike tours, and picnic areas around Oberstdorf - summer vacation in the Allgäu region

The Wallrafweg is a beautiful high-altitude trail that starts with a highlight – the ski jumping stadium, a venue for the Four Hills Tournament. Beginning behind the stadium, the trail runs at mid-elevation towards Fischen. The Gaisalpe is a recommended place to stop for refreshments. From there, you descend via the Gaisalptobel gorge back into the valley and across meadows to Dummelsmoos and then on to Oberstdorf.

Directly behind the hotel, a path leads along the Breitach river towards the Breitachklamm gorge. Europe's deepest gorge is an impressive natural spectacle that is captivating even, or perhaps especially, in bad weather. At the upper end of the gorge, you'll find two charming places to stop for refreshments, the Hintere Enge and the Alpe Osterberg, both offering breathtaking views. Mountain maples and wildflower meadows complete this hike.

On the outskirts of Oberstdorf, in the direction of the Trettach Valley, lies the idyllic Moorweiher pond. It's worth taking a closer look at the information panels about nature before continuing through the forest with its wild roses and across the Mummen (gentle, rolling meadows) to the Christessee lake. The Spielmannsau area completes the hike, and on the way back, a stop at the rustic Mummestüble inn is highly recommended.

The Hindelanger Klettersteig (via ferrata) is highly recommended, but only for experienced via ferrata climbers. It is one of the longest and most challenging via ferratas in the Allgäu region, stretching 5 km and featuring several unsecured rock sections of difficulty levels I and II. The via ferrata runs along the rugged ridge between the Nebelhorn and Großer Daumen mountains. Unparalleled, magnificent views are an added bonus.

A fantastic mountain tour awaits, but it should only be undertaken by experienced hikers. Stamina and sure-footedness are essential. Take the bus to Christlessee. From there, you'll hike through the Hölltobel gorge to Gerstruben, then on to the Dietersbachalpe alpine pasture and further via the Älplesattel pass to the Käseralpe alpine pasture. The homemade cheesecake is divine! The trail leads past the impressive Stuibenfall waterfall and down to the Oytalhaus mountain hut. Here you can rent a mountain scooter and enjoy a relaxing ride back to Oberstdorf.

This tour takes you to Einödsbach, the southernmost settlement in Germany. You reach it via the Stillach Valley, passing the ski jumping hill, the Fellhorn cable car valley station, and Birgsau. From Einödsbach, you have a magnificent view of the majestic peaks of the Trettachspitze and Mädelegabel. The route then continues into the Rappenalp Valley with its wild meadows dotted with gentians and the opportunity to stop for refreshments at the Breitengehren Alpine pasture.

Nearly untouched nature beckons on a bike tour through the Lochbach Valley and to Rohrmoos. Our tip: E-bikes make the sometimes steep climbs easier. However, you'll have to push your bike for a short stretch on the descent to Rohrmoos. This varied tour reveals gentle meadows and hills, culminating in stunning views of the striking rock massif of the Hoher Ifen and the rugged summit of the Besler. And best of all: There's always a place to stop for refreshments within easy reach.

Families especially will feel right at home here and should definitely plan a full day for visiting the Alpsee Mountain World. There's absolutely no chance of getting bored! It's about a 25 km drive to Bühl near Immenstadt, and then the action-packed day can begin. Take the cable car or hike up to the top. There you'll find a huge playground, a large high ropes course, and the Alpsee Coaster, the longest year-round toboggan run in Germany.

These two highlights can be reached directly from the house on foot. Or you can take a bicycle or e-bike. Lake Freibergsee is a feast for the eyes in every season, and in summer it's also perfect for swimming. From here you have a magnificent view of the ski jumping hill, which is always worth a visit. And for those who like a challenge, you can extend the tour to the Hochleite and from there on to the Söllereck.

Skiing in summer? Absolutely, that's possible in the mountains too. At Inselsee lake, you can try your hand at waterskiing, kneeboarding, or wakeboarding. Why not combine this sporting challenge with a beautiful bike tour along the Iller river? From the hotel, you can reach the lake near Immenstadt after a leisurely 21 km. The return trip is also easily manageable. Alternatively, you can rent an e-bike from us or take the train back to Oberstdorf.

Even if you enjoy sleeping in on vacation, you should definitely get up before sunrise at least once and join herbalist Conny Bader for a magnificent sunrise hike to an Allgäu summit. Equipped with headlamps, you'll set off. The tranquility, the scent of nature, and the crisp mountain air create a truly special atmosphere in the morning. As a reward, you'll not only be treated to a breathtaking view, but also a delicious snack and hot coffee.

At the foot of the Grünten, the guardian of the Allgäu region, lies the Starzlach Gorge. On the way to the gorge entrance, follow the Starzlach River with its wide, gravelly riverbed, perfect for a relaxing picnic and a refreshing dip for your feet.
